My Motorcycles
Total Mileage:
33,000
My first motorbike, boy was I glad it wasn't a scooter! At 16 I could not wait to get on two wheels after riding pillion on the back of my Dad's 2013 Honda CBR 500R. At 15 was when I really got into bikes, after riding pillion on the back of a scooter in Italy, then discovering MotoVloging on YouTube and finally watching the 2013 MotoGP. I was initially looking to get a sportbike, but after talking to my dad, I decided on getting a street bike. Although there was some frustration with a huge lack of power, this bike allowed me to have my own independance and it was a great first bike!
The R125 was my first 'proper' bike after having a twist and go 50cc. It had amazing fuel consumption and range. Overall it was pretty decent bike, especially for a 125 if you ingnore the suspension issues I had. I managed to get her up to 84mph for a brief moment but can sit just before the rev limiter at 83, however it feels like its slowly getting ready to explode when above 80. After a rough 0-60 run it clocked in at about 14 seconds which is increadibly slow, but for a 4 stroke 125 you wont be seeing anything under 12 seconds. After moving from the 50 I can safely say that this little R125 is much faster, and a lot more useable meaning it's more fun too. Having gears meant that straights weren't half as bad as on my Gilera. Also loosing the lawnmower-ish whine of the 2 stroke was great!
After my R125 got stolen I fancied getting something a little different, and although I'm not really a fan of Yamaha I found myself getting a WR125 as it's a reliable bike that you can throw around and just mess around on. At first I was really missing having a sportbike, but after a couple of months this WR has increased my liking for supermoto's and I can now apreciate what all the fuss is about! Although it's slower than the R125 and an right nuisance on dual carriageway (or any straight road for that matter) it's a great bike when it comes to the twisty technical roads and a great laugh down the greenlanes!
When I was still on the R125, I wanted to get a Ducati Monster 696/796 for my A2 bike, but after owning the WR I was set on the supermoto life. Although the Duke isn't an actual supermoto, it's not a true naked bike either, I like to think of it as a mix of the two: half naked, half supermoto. The Duke has been my first true slice of being on a big bike and the difference is huge!
